Sermon 1: Taqwa in Sexual Affairs (9) – Meaning of Nikah
Sermon 2: Senator Mushtaq is the voice of Pakistan
Sexual Ability and Its Impact
The most powerful ability placed within human beings is the sexual ability. This ability becomes the most influential force on both the individual and social life of humans, and thus it poses great threats if left uncontrolled. When regulated and balanced, it remains free from danger and provides several benefits to mankind. However, if this ability is not organized and managed properly, it can transform into the most devastating power for man, leading him towards complete destruction.
If we were to conduct a survey among various categories of people—according to status, age, gender, etc.—within Pakistani society, to determine what has the greatest impact and pressure on people, we would find sexual ability at the center. Such a survey should be academically designed to reveal realities and facts rather than mere calculated answers. Another approach is to observe married families that lack a strong relationship; in such cases, family members live distressed and irritated lives. Observation is different from a survey because here you do not ask questions but rather assess directly, similar to medical diagnosis. In both approaches, it can be proven that sexual ability has the greatest influence on human problems, even though people generally avoid expressing it due to shame. In reality, we are not ashamed of much, but we pretend to be ashamed in this matter.
Quranic Principles for a Healthy Sexual Society
The first principle that the Qur’an specifies for a healthy sexual society is the protection of private parts. This has several dimensions:
1. Avoiding exposure: It means not exposing sexual organs or anything that arouses sexual desire in others, such as wearing tight or short attire that exposes body parts.
2. Avoiding illicit acts: It means refraining from intermingling with non-mahrams and avoiding illegitimate sexual activities such as masturbation, adultery, and sodomy.
3. Preserving the gift: It also means not wasting or misusing this God-given ability.
The second Qur’anic command is marriage (Nikah), which is meant to organize sexual affairs. The Qur’an uses two terms for marriage: Nikah and Zawj.
• Nikah is generally translated as the marriage contract recited by a Maulana, but in reality, that contract is Aqd (bonding), whose purpose is to establish Nikah.
• The outcome of Nikah is Zawjiyyat (pairing). Both terms are related but carry distinct meanings.
The Linguistic and Conceptual Meaning of Nikah
The word Zawj means a pair. The word Nakaha carries several usages:
• When rain falls, and water seeps inside the sand.
• When slumber comes upon a man—not complete sleep, but gradual drowsiness entering the eyes.
• When smells mix into the air, with particles absorbing and spreading further.
• When sugar or salt dissolves completely in water, losing its independent identity but leaving its effect behind.
The selection of the word Nikah for marriage is beautiful and meaningful. In Nikah, the existence of two individuals mixes to the extent that they lose their independent identities, giving rise to a new shared existence. The sweetness of sugar remains in water even though sugar as an independent particle is gone, and water also loses its previous identity. A third entity is created.
By contrast, blood relations such as between parents and children are natural, not contractual. They are built on love and respect but identities remain distinct. The relationship between husband and wife, however, is contractual and by choice, established after maturity, and driven by sexual ability. It is this contract that leads to their deep absorption into each other. Freud claimed that all relationships are sexual in nature, but scholars have refuted this claim.
Managing Sexual Ability Through Nikah
The protection of private parts is achieved through Nikah, where man and woman become absorbed into each other. Sexual ability, like hunger and thirst, arises naturally and does not disappear on its own. However, unlike hunger and thirst, which weaken a person if unfulfilled, sexual desire strengthens and dominates when aroused, overpowering other abilities.
It is like a heavy-duty electrical appliance that draws maximum power, tripping the electricity. Similarly, in the human system, different abilities consume energy, but the one that draws maximum energy when active is sexual ability. Once aroused, it can override intellect, chastity, and modesty, leading a person into crime and forbidden acts.
Therefore, the planning and management of this ability must be done according to its specific nature. The solution is Nikah, which allows man and woman to be absorbed into one another. This begins with the Aqd (contract), but unlike other contracts, it is not merely transactional. Unlike agreements between buyer and seller, this bond establishes a deeply personal and existential relationship.

If sexual ability is not given the correct direction through marriage, it will still find its own outlet. It will reign over a person, drag him, and even overpower his intellect. Human intellect is extremely powerful, yet only sexual desire has the capacity to dominate it. Hence, before this force causes destruction, it must be confined within the divine plan of Nikah.
Nikah as Protection of Religion
This ability finds tranquility only in the relationship of husband and wife, where no privacy exists between them. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said in one tradition that half of a person’s religion is secured through Nikah, while another tradition says two-thirds of religion is preserved through it. This is an important point—how can one act safeguard such a large part of religion?
When sexual ability is satisfied through Nikah, it no longer disturbs other abilities such as intellect. Otherwise, it diverts all human energies towards itself, just like a heavy motor pulling all electricity. Once contained, other faculties can function properly, and the religion of man is protected.
The Consequences of Neglecting Nikah
There are people who indulge in licentious acts and fulfill sexual needs through illegitimate ways. Outwardly, they appear relaxed even without marriage. This is because they have found corrupt alternatives. But their actions are not based on Iffah (chastity). If sexual energy accumulates without a lawful outlet, it will eventually explode.
A person under such pressure cannot worship properly. This is why we see acts of sodomy even among supposedly religious individuals in madrasahs and churches. Those who outwardly pretend to be pure often turn out to be corrupt, because the environment they live in suppresses natural solutions and leads to hidden perversions. Whether exposed or not, the destruction exists.
When the religious path is ignored, transgression replaces it. Many feel satisfied as long as evils are not publicly exposed, but in truth, corruption persists. For this reason, Allah has prescribed Nikah as the means of protecting human religion. If one avoids marriage, the community degenerates worse than the people of Prophet Lut. Unfortunately, we remain heedless of this reality, while corruption increases day by day.

SERMON 2
Loss of Taqwa and Religious Apathy
Today’s generation has lost everything, including humanity, due to a lack of Taqwa, yet they are not attentive to this loss. Friday prayers are one of the means of acquiring Taqwa, but we see that our staff and others show little interest in attending Friday prayers. To address this, we have arranged Sunday classes as well. These classes will begin this Sunday and are open to everyone aged ten and above. Registrations have already started. For children, classes will be held at Seraat School; for adults, they will be at Jamea and Ummul Kitab.
Gaza: Two Years and a Week of Solidarity
Two years are about to pass since the issue of Gaza began. It started on 7 October 2023, and now we are approaching 7 October again. We should dedicate the entire week of 7 October as a week of solidarity for Gaza. The enemies have devised new plans to destroy Palestine and to end Hamas and the resistance. One sad reality is that some Pakistani leadership has become part of this effort and has come to an agreement with them, although they are now trying to make excuses to deny it.
Historical Betrayal and Current Regional Maneuvers
The Arab rulers were complicit from the time Israel was formed. These Bedouin elites betrayed the Ottoman Empire and thereby helped establish Israel in Palestine; later they assisted in strengthening Israel. From the current activities at forums like the UN General Assembly, it appears the resistance has become strong, and hence powerful actors are making maximum attempts to end it. Internationally, hatred for Israel has grown. Rulers who remained silent could not stay silent because their peoples awakened and expressed hatred toward Israel. Around seventy-seven leaders reportedly boycotted Netanyahu’s speech and left the room; he had to deliver his address in an almost empty hall. Trump has said Israel has become isolated and needs help to recover. The resistance has remained strong; today resistance is not ending, but Israel’s survival has become difficult.
They have sought help from Muslim rulers. Trump devised a plan, and every point seems aimed at ending Hamas while preserving Israel. He mentioned that eight Muslim countries could help Israel to survive and that Pakistan is part of this group. Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, and Pakistan have met with Trump; he said this group would do what the U.S. could not do directly. They intend to achieve their goals through these treacherous actors. Hamas and Hezbollah have declared they will not disarm in their lifetimes. The Emir of Qatar told Trump that they cannot carry out this plan, and the ruler of Pakistan has also said this was not the plan they suggested to Trump.
Global Public Pressure vs. Complicity of Muslim Rulers
This situation has been influenced by people in countries like Britain, where non-Muslims form a large portion of the population. I have seen news that eight thousand showbiz actors have boycotted Israel. Though these are often corrupt people, humanity still exists in them; they possess enough honor to take such a stand. There are no Muslim actors among them. These are Hollywood and Bollywood actors, producers, and directors who have launched a campaign against Israel. They are pressuring their rulers to act. In Spain, Italy, and South Africa, there is extreme pressure on governments against Israel. But in Muslim countries, there is no comparable pressure on rulers. The people of these nations follow the religion of their rulers, who are treacherous. The public should pressurize their governments not to stab Palestine in the back. If rulers do so, the people must make them realize they will not remain in power. We should actively support Palestine during this week; the crown of keeping Palestine alive rests with Hamas, Hezbollah, and Ansarullah, and despite their ruined towns they remain strong. These tyrants are asking Muslim rulers to close Hamas’s tunnels, yet there are reportedly still seven thousand fighters under the ruins of Gaza. We must express our solidarity with Palestine in every possible way.
The Success of Resistance and Call for Muslim Unity
The Zionists are rightly despised, and global hatred of them is a major success of the resistance. The world now hates Israel; Trump is being criticized globally and recognizes that hatred is increasing. A third group of Muslim rulers is aligning with these anti-Palestinian plans, and if they do not distance themselves from Trump’s proposals, the Muslim Ummah should openly register its anger. These rulers are acting as Zionists and pursuing an agenda that will not be accepted by the Muslim Ummah. The Palestinians and the Muslim Ummah would rather be destroyed than be part of this treachery.
Praise for Senator Mushtaq and Solidarity from Pakistan
We appreciate the role of Pakistani Senator Mushtaq, who participated in the Sumud Flotilla — the naval caravan that attempted to deliver aid to Gaza with forty-four vessels and five hundred social activists from across the globe. They were attacked and arrested as well. This was a major act of resistance, and from the beginning he has fully supported and stood for the Palestinians, raising his voice. We pray that Allah protects him for the esteemed work he has done. These treacherous rulers have aligned with Trump, but Senator Mushtaq has become a spokesperson for the Muslim Ummah and has represented the Pakistani people. The sentiments of Pakistanis are reflected in what Senator Mushtaq is saying. What our Prime Minister has tweeted or discussed with Trump is not the voice of Pakistan; instead, Senator Mushtaq’s voice represents the Pakistani people.
God willing, if the need arises to break the siege, this entire community — youths, men, and women — will go to break the siege of Gaza. We deliver this message during the week of solidarity to the Palestinian people: you have opened many fronts with your resistance, and we stand with you forever until final victory. With your determination you will deny these devils their aims; the entire Pakistani community stands with you. Even if no other stands, the followers of Hussain ibn Ali and Ali ibn Abu Talib are always with you. Iran, Hezbollah, and the Shias of Pakistan are with you, and we are ready to make every sacrifice. May Allah end this oppression, disgrace these tyrants, and grant success to the crusaders of justice.
